PUSCH RIDGE in scenic Oro Valley at the edge of Tucson
|
Northwest of the Old Pueblo, Tucson, Arizona sits the Town of Oro Valley, nestled on the western slopes of the Catalina mountains, that rise 6,500 feet above the town.
Oro Valley was founded in 1975 and is bounded to the east by the Pusch Ridge Wilderness Area and to the Northwest by the Tortolita mountains.
|
Tucson lies amid five mountains. To the north sit the Catalinas, which hold a ski area at 8500 in the Mount Lemmon area. Mount Lemmon's peak is at 9,100 feet and dominates the skyline.Bounding Tucson to the East are the Rincon mountains and 20 miles to the South are the Santa Ritas, topped by Mount Wrightstown rising slightly higher than Mount Lemmon at 9,200 feet. Nestled close to the Western end of town are former volcanoes known as, aptly, the Tucson Mountains.
To the far Northwest beyond
Oro Valleylie the Tortolitas, another protected region set aside as natural, undisturbed area.
